Backyard Bocce Ball
Bocce is a superb way to spend some time having fun with friends and loved ones tax on new homes in Ontario . This time-honored activity was played for centuries in other areas of earth. In most countries, this sport is taken very seriously as a game. Regrettably, regulation size bocce courts are usually too large to fit American backyards. We have scaled down this version (click here to see the programs) to about 1/3 the regulation size, which makes it perfect for family enjoyment.
Gather the Materials
To Create This bocce ball court, scoreboard and ball holder, then you may need: bocce ball court plans / fourteen 5/4-inch x 6-inch x 10-foot pressure-treated pine boards / 2 5/4-inch x 6-inch x 12-foot pressure-treated walnut planks / 2-inch wood screws / weed fabric / shovel / paver foundation / decomposed granite / pea gravel / crushed oyster shell or oyster flour (optional) / blot and/or sealant as desired / two 1/2-inch galvanized floor flanges / 1 1/2-inch galvanized 45-degree elbow / 1 1/2-inch galvanized threaded pipe, 1-inch or bigger (close) / 1 36-inch threaded pipe / four 1/2-inch wood screws
Make the Cuts
Download the bocce ball court programs, then create all necessary cuts in line with the diagram.
Build the Ball Holder
Attach the 46-inch plank (H) into the interior edge of the 72-inch board (F) by adding two wood screws through the 72-inch board and into the conclusion of this 46-inch plank. Attach the other end of this 46-inch board into the inside edge of this 12-inch board (K). Attach the 13-inch board (J) into the exterior of this 12-inch board by adding wood screws through the 12-inch plank and into the 13-inch board. Completing the Frame

Preparing the Ground
Lay out the frame and mark the ground where you will dig with powdered chalk or flour (they'll wash away with only a lot of water). Have someone assist you move the frame out of the way. Put the Frame

Pour Paver Base

Level it Out
To earn a flat playing surface, then attach a 5/4-inch x 6-inch x 4-foot plank the center of a scrap 6-foot plank with screws.
Smooth Out the Court
Flip it over with the 4-foot board inside the courtroom and also the 6-foot board flush against the surface of the frame. Spread decomposed granite above the surface and get a helper to help you shimmy the planks back and forth from 1 end of the court to another to ensure that the granite is evenly dispersed and flat.
Fill the Ball Holder

Insert wood screws through the 2-inch x 2-inch boards and into the 6-inch x 14-inch boards. It is best to pre-drill these stains to prevent splitting.
Make the Scoreboard
Twist the 2-inch x 2-inch x 10-inch board (M) to the front of the scoreboard by inserting wooden screws through the rear of the scoreboard and into the 2-inch x 2-inch x 12-inch plank on front.
Installing the Scoreboard
Insert a galvanized floor flange into the very centre of the rear of the scoreboard with 1/2-inch wood screws. Attach another galvanized floor flange to the bocce court frame in which the ball holder matches the side of the courtroom (see diagram). Twist the 36-inch galvanized pipe into the flange connected to the court and attach the 45-degree elbow towards the top of the pipe. Insert the pipe connector into the elbow then twist the flange connected to the scoreboard on the connector, making it quite tight.
Your Court is Complete
As the decomposed granite settles you may want to incorporate more, leveling the surface each time. The granite is suitable for play, but for a smoother, quicker court you may want to add a layer of crushed oyster shell (typically found at feed and seed stores).
